Mvita School Library

After enthusiastic discussions with Madam Nuru, principal of Mvita Primary, we were assigned a

unused classroom. With help from teachers, staff, and students, we cleaned the room, had it

repainted, and had the wobbly, too-tall bookshelves cut down to kid-size and repainted.

Once we

started filling the bookshelves, kids came in at recess to read even while a local artist was still

painting colorful, inspirational murals. Along with the wonderful selection of fiction and

nonfictic books, we stocked the library with games, puzzles, dolls & dinosaurs, crayons, drawing

paper, and other educational materials to make the library the center attraction of the school.

Mvita Children's Library opened in March 2024 to a packed house and great fanfare and celebration.
